As Uncharted’s newest employee, I have virtually nothing to do with this milestone, but I’m so proud to announce it anyway. This last week marked 10 years since Tanner McSwain opened the first iteration of Uncharted Books in Logan Square!
Tanner’s collected some pictures and memories of the store’s first decade—along with a delightful and completely unpredictable bonus at the end—which you should go read right now. I’m pasting some pictures below as a preview, including the most adorable shots of fresh-faced Baby Tanner and his gorgeous wife, Rachel.
Tanner elaborates on Rachel’s many contributions to the success of the store—among other things, she’s the designer behind the Studio Milkweed jewelry and Booksmells candles available at the front of the store—but the one thing he didn’t mention is that tomorrow (Sunday, January 16) is her birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RACHEL! We love you!
We’ll be celebrating this anniversary in various ways all year—watch this space, and our Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. In the meantime, we want to thank you all so much for donating your old books, supporting the store through ~all this~ and being the warm, weird, book-loving community that’s made Uncharted so special for 10 DINGDANG YEARS. We’re grateful for you every day.
My new year’s resolution is to send newsletters out at least half as often as I claim I’m going to, so you can look forward to more of these in your inbox in 2022. (Probably.) Yay!
Until next time,
Kate
