Cozy Season Hours & Deals

Cozy season is well underway here in Chicago, and it’s a blessing and a curse. I have a working fireplace for the first time in ten years and a dog who would like to graft himself to my body until spring, which means I am basically always under a hot water bottle filled with love. Thanks to the pandemic, I now have a full wardrobe of sweatpants and can get anything I desire delivered, so it’s extremely tempting to spend the next four to six months holed up in a couch fort.
Instead, we’re going to take just a few days off—today and tomorrow, plus Dec. 24, 25, and 26—and otherwise stay open so you can complete your ideal hygge scenes with a good book or four.
Small Business Saturday Deals
To entice you back out into the real world, post-turkey coma, we’re offering a $5 gift certificate with any purchase this Saturday, November 27. We’ve been working hard to source new stock lately, so if you haven’t been in for a few weeks, there will be a lot of new books to browse! Like, somehow, two hardcover copies of this 2012 A.M. Homes novel that has the world’s most perfect Thanksgiving-themed cover?
Plus some favorites I enumerated on Twitter yesterday, including Birds of a Lesser Paradise, by Megan Mayhew Bergman; Citizen, by Claudia Rankine; The Friend, by Sigrid Nunez; All You Can Ever Know, by Nicole Chung; When My Brother Was an Aztec, by Natalie Diaz; the Emily Wilson translation of The Odyssey; Strange Things, by Teju Cole, and many more. I get so excited for you all when books I love come into the store, and I know somebody’s about to get a deal on greatness.
Online Deals This Weekend
Speaking of which! If you can’t make it in for your $5 gift certificate on Saturday, you can still enjoy shopping Uncharted and getting free extras. Bookshop.org is offering free shipping all weekend, and Libro.fm is offering a free audiobook with a $15 independent bookstore purchase through Tuesday—to be selected from a list that includes Somebody’s Daughter, by Ashley C. Ford; Wild Seed, by Octavia Butler; The Body Is not an Apology, by Sonya Renee Taylor; Cultish, by Amanda Montell; and How the Word Is Passed, by Clint Smith.
In fact, I’m going to go get myself that audiobook deal right now, because I want to read every single book on the list.
Enjoy the holiday, if you’re celebrating, and the long weekend if you’re not. We’ll see you Saturday!
